Team Shosholoza has shot up from 9th to 7th place overall on the Louis Vuitton Challenger rankings despite a tough final day of racing in the Louis Vuitton Act 13 fleet racing off Valencia, today.
"I am so proud of our team! We have achieved what we set out to do. We have put a place between us and AREVA Challenge and Italian +39 challengers who were tied for 7th place overall going into Act 13. It means we get the critical two bonus points we were after as we go into the Louis Vuitton Cup next week," said Captain Salvatore Sarno.
The most generous compliment came from Ian Walker, +39 tactician: "I think South Africa deserves it. They have been among the teams who have trained the most in Valencia. They have got fantastic spirit and they were quite clear on what their goal was going into this event. They have got a nice boat and they have worked hard."
+39 were dismasted on the second day of racing in Act 13 after a collision with United Internet Team Germany and have not been out on to the race course since then.
